CC01= TA02 and TA03 Parts Compatability CONFIRMED --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After looking around on these forums and on Tamiya Club, I decided to do some research. I often have seen it mentioned that TA02 and TA03 upgrades, such as aluminum knuckles and CVDs, will work on a CC01 chassis. I decided to search for concrete proof of this based off of researching Part #'s. This is all purely academic work, since I dont have any of the upgraded aftermarket parts in hand. The area of my research has to do with the front knuckles and axles. I was searching for ways to obtain a tighter turning radius by increasing the degree of front knuckle rotation. Here is what I found.
Front “Upright” (Blue things in ReRe Pajero) Steering Knuckles
Kit 49490 Re Release Pajero Part #0445246 (Stamped OP 121) Some Reference says #50555 Kit 58132 Original Pajero Part #0445246 Kit 58141 Jeep Wrangler Part #0445246(Tamiya USA Website says “50555 replaces 0445246”) Kit 58128 “Early” TA02 Part #0445246 Kit 58145 “Late” TA02 Part #50555
From the above Part #’s, it can be determined that Original CC01,Re Release CC01, and TA02 all use the same Knuckle. They all use the 1260 outer bearing and the 1510 inside bearing (I looked at all the instruction manuals).
Front Wheel Axles (Part # SA10 in Re Release Pajero) (Outer Front Axles)
Kit 49490 Re Release Pajero Part #9808167 Kit 58132 Original Pajero Part #50604 TGX Wheel Axle Kit 58141 Jeep Wrangler Part #9805467(Tamiya USA Website says “50604 replaces 9805467”) Kit 58128 “Early” TA02 Part #9805467 Kit 58145 “Late” TA02 Part #50604 TGX Wheel Axle
From the above Part #’s, it can be determined that Original CC01,Re Release CC01, and TA02 all use the same Outer Front Axles. They all use the 1260 outer bearing and the 1510 inside bearing (I looked at all the instruction manuals). The only discrepancy is that the re release CC01 uses different part #, but all the others are the same. 99% sure this is the same part, because no other corresponding parts change. Possible Part # change on the re release to correspond with a current in production chassis?
Front Gearbox Joint, Short and Long (Part SA5 and SA6 from ReRe Manual) (Parts that slide into Diff)
Kit 49490 Re Release Pajero Part #9805368 Kit 58132 Original Pajero Part #9805368 Kit 58141 Jeep Wrangler Part #9805368 Kit 58128 “Early” TA02 Part #9805368 Kit 58145 “Late” TA02 Part #9805368
All use exact same Part #’s.
Dog bones (Part SA4 “Driveshafts” in ReRe manual) (Front Inner axles)
Kit 49490 Re Release Pajero Part #51216 TA05 Driveshafts Kit 58132 Original Pajero Part #50643 TA02 + FWD Touring Car Driveshafts Kit 58141 Jeep Wrangler Part #9805470(Tamiya USA Website says “50643 replaces 9805470”) Kit 58128 “Early” TA02 Part #9805470 Kit 58145 “Late” TA02 Part #50643
From the above Part #’s, it can be determined that Original CC01,Re Release CC01, and TA02 all use the same Dog Bones. The only discrepancy is that the re release CC01 uses different part #, but all the others are the same. 99% sure this is the same part, because no other corresponding parts change. Possible Part # change on the re release to correspond with a current in production chassis?
From the above research, I think it is safe to say with 99% probability that the above mentioned TA02 parts (Knuckles, Wheel Axles, Dog Bones, Gearbox Joints) are all the same parts. If you can use stock TA02 parts in a CCO1, you should be able to use TA02 upgrade parts (Universal Axles and Aluminum Knuckles) in this chassis. The only problem is finding these parts.
To take it one step further and jump to the TA03 chassis (TA03R, TA03RS, TA03F all checked)
Knuckle Part #50705 Driveshaft Part #50643 Gearbox Joint Part #9805368 Wheel Axle Part #50604
The knuckle on a TA03 uses the same bearing layout as used on the TA02 and CC01 chassis. All other Part #’s are the same. The knuckle part # is different, but I cannot discern why it is #50705. There is obviously some difference between a TA02 and TA03 knuckle, but I do not know what it is. It has been mentioned in various forums that TA03 knuckles can be used on a CC01, but I cannot find an actual part # link to make this conclusion.
On a side note, I recently purchased Tamiya Part #53172 (OP - 172) "4WD TA02 and FWD Car Universal Shaft Set". On the back it gives all the TA02 car model #'s that it will fit. Hopefully it will fit my NIB Wrangler. The only downside to this is that this cost me around $50. This is why I did this research, to see if the cheaper aftermarket CVD for the TA02 and TA03 will fit the CC01 chassis. Hopefully so.
If anyone has actually used these parts, TA02 or TA03 knuckles and Universal Axles, please speak up and confirm.
It also seems that you could remove a bit of material from the inside of the steering arm on the knuckle to allow it to rotate further without the need to purchase aluminum knuckles. Most of the aluminum knuckles I have found have the same steering arm shape as the factory plastic knuckles. I guess a "shaved" aluminum knuckle arm would be stronger then a "shaved" plastic knuckle.
If all this confuses you, go to Tamiya Club, look under Tutorials, "How to achieve more lock to lock steering". __________________ Nothing like the smell of a new Tamiya in the morning......
This is an ebay description of the "SP705 (#50705) TA03 Knuckle Arms" I purchased. Hopefully this further confirms my belief that a TA02 and TA03 Front knuckle are the same. The last part about fitting a TA01 is the same reference that is listed on the back of the Tamiya TA02 CVD's I purchased.
Vintage and INCREDIBLY RARE Tamiya TA03 Knuckle Arm (Grey Version), Part No's. 50705 (SP-705)
This Part is the Same as 50555 TA02 & FWD Touring & Rally Car Front Upright, but in the Incredibly Rare Grey Plastic
Heres some pictures of the parts I have on hand now. TA02 FRONT CVD's will fit a CC01 FRONT Knuckle. Overall length is the same. Use the same bearings. You can see the increased amount of steering you can get with the CVD's. I will only be able to take advantage of this, however, if I can get increased throw from the steering knuckles. Heres the pics
TA02 FRONT CVD's will work with CCO1 FRONT Knuckles.
CONFIRMED
FRONT stub axles, hubs, dogbones, diff joints all the same.
CC01 FRONT=TA02 FRONT=TA03 FRONT
Heres pics with factory TA03 FRONT Knuckles next to ReRe Pajero factory Knuckles
I also checked all dimensions with a caliper, they are the exact same parts.
